Dr Amrit Lota is a consultant cardiologist, and an integral member of the inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) services.
He specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of heart conditions and cardiovascular symptoms, including:
- arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ARVC)

Biography
Dr Amrit Lota leads a specialist clinic for patients with myopericarditis, focusing on non-invasive diagnosis, risk prediction, including genetic evaluation, and management of refractory symptoms.
He also specialises in the early detection and management of cardiovascular risk in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr Lota studied medicine at the University of Oxford, graduating with a first-class degree and several academic prizes. He completed his cardiology training in London before further developing his expertise at Johns Hopkins Hospital, USA.
In 2020, he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London, funded by the British Heart Foundation, for his research into advanced cardiac imaging and clinical genetics to improve the diagnosis and management of myocarditis and cardiomyopathy.
He established and has led a specialist clinic for patients with myocarditis at the Royal Brompton Hospital since 2022, recognising the growing overlap with underlying cardiomyopathy and systemic autoimmune diseases. He is also an active member of the UK Cardio-IMID partnership, providing early detection and management of cardiovascular risk in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.
In 2023, Dr Lota was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and is actively involved in training the next generation of doctors.
Research
Dr Lota continues to drive innovation in the early diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment of patients with acute myopericarditis, as well as dilated and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy.
His research has informed UK policy on myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccination and was instrumental in developing the latest European guideline recommendations on clinical genetics in myocarditis.
His current research builds on his internationally recruited cohort of acute myocarditis patients and integrates multiple national datasets with AI modelling to advance understanding of heart muscle diseases and develop predictive tools to prevent future adverse events.
