He is also an interventional cardiologist performing coronary angioplasty and is an active member of the primary angioplasty rota at Harefield Hospital.



Biography

Dr Richard Grocott-Mason is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, where he treats private and NHS patients.

He studied at Jesus College, University of Oxford, and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School (now part of King’s College London), qualifying in 1986.

He then trained in cardiology and general medicine at numerous hospitals, including:

  • King’s College Hospital
  • The London Chest Hospital
  • Guy’s Hospital
  • Harefield Hospital
  • University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff

In 1999, he was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Hillingdon Hospital and Harefield Hospital.

He has combined his clinical work with clinical leadership roles, first as the clinical director for medicine. In 2014, he was appointed as director of the Harefield Hospital heart division, and since 2016 has been the medical director of the Trust.


Research

Dr Richard Grocott-Mason is actively involved in research for a wide range of topics from basic science to long-term outcomes from cardiac transplantation and aortic valve replacement.

He has a passionate interest in ensuring that patients receive a high-quality clinical service, and is always looking at innovative ways to deliver and improve clinical services.

Publications

Dr Richard Grocott-Mason has published over 60 papers and case reports over his career. This has covered topics ranging from basic science to long-term outcomes from cardiac transplantation and aortic valve replacement.
