Clinical expertise
Professor Peter George is a consultant respiratory physician and clinical lead for interstitial lung disease at Royal Brompton Hospital and Professor of Practice (Respiratory Medicine) at Imperial College. He is experienced in managing all respiratory conditions and has specialist expertise in conditions which result in lung inflammation and scarring – interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis.
He has specialist expertise in:
- idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
- sarcoidosis
- hypersensitivity pneumonitis
- lung diseases due to scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis
- smoking-related lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Biography
Professor Peter George is a consultant respiratory physician at Royal Brompton Hospital, where he treats both NHS and private patients.
He studied at Imperial College London and received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2005.
After completing his undergraduate studies at Imperial College London, Professor Peter George trained in respiratory and general medicine at the most prestigious centres in London. He completed his specialist training in interstitial lung disease at the Hammersmith and Royal Brompton hospitals in London and at the National Jewish Health Hospital in Denver, Colorado, USA.
In 2009, Professor George was awarded an academic clinical fellowship in respiratory medicine at Imperial College London. With funding from the Medical Research Council, Professor George completed his PhD on the role of the immune system in pulmonary inflammation.
Between 2019 and 2021, he held the role of respiratory speciality lead for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) North West London Clinical Research Network (CRN), where he led the delivery of improving patient access to research in respiratory medicine.
Research
As Professor Practice (Respiratory Medicine) at Imperial College London, Professor George continues to be highly active in basic science and clinical research recruiting patients to trials of new therapies, supervising PhD students and publishing his research in the most prestigious medical journals.

Teaching
Professor George is committed to teaching and is a Module Lead within the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College Cardiovascular and Respiratory Health MSc. He supervises PhD and BSc students at Imperial College London.
Since 2017, Professor George has led a globally renowned International Fellows programme at Royal Brompton Hospital attracting and training senior trainees with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease.
Professor George is on the specialist advisory group of the British Thoracic Society for interstitial lung disease.
