World-renowned expertise in women’s care
Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals have both been ranked as some of the world’s best for obstetric and gynaecological care by US Newsweek, the American weekly news magazine.
Gynaecological care at every stage of life
Our gynaecology specialists at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals are experts in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a wide range of gynaecological conditions, from puberty to menopause, including:
- bladder conditions
- contraceptive complications
- endometriosis
- fibroids
- menopause
- ovarian cysts
- polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)
Our consultant gynaecologists work closely with colleagues in our fertility and maternity departments to provide cohesive care for women with gynaecological problems, whether they are trying to conceive or are experiencing a complex pregnancy.
Private maternity care
Our maternity service at St Thomas’ Hospital is one of the largest in London, with 6,000 babies delivered each year. Our specialists are skilled in supporting any pregnancy, including the most complex cases.
Westminster Maternity Suite is the home of our private consultant-led maternity service, where we support over 400 private births each year. We’re proud to champion patient choice by facilitating all types of birth, from vaginal deliveries – both assisted and unassisted – to planned and emergency C-sections.
Integrated maternity, heart and children’s care
St Thomas’ Hospital is located on the same site as world-renowned Evelina London Children’s Hospital, allowing our multidisciplinary team to provide integrated maternity and children’s care, especially when it comes to diagnosing conditions while the baby is still in the womb.
With our expertise in fetal cardiology at Evelina London, we can diagnose and monitor babies with heart conditions before birth. Early diagnosis helps us plan their care and ensure they receive the right treatment from our children’s heart specialists as soon as possible after birth.
If expectant mothers have a heart condition that might affect pregnancy and delivery, our maternity experts work closely with our cardiologists and, where required, cardiac surgeons at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Personalised fertility care for women
Our fertility specialists in the Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) at Guy’s Hospital have been advancing fertility care for over 30 years. With consultants who are internationally recognised as pioneers in fertility treatments, patients are in safe hands in our ACU.
Our fertility team sees patients from all walks of life, including:
- heterosexual couples
- same-sex couples
- individuals seeking to use donor sperm or eggs
- transgender patients seeking egg and sperm freezing
We offer a broad range of investigations to diagnose causes of infertility, and treatments including IVF, ICSI and IUI. We’re home to the UK’s largest pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) service, helping future parents to minimise the risk of passing on certain inherited conditions to their babies.
Experts in women's heart care
Our experts work together across a range of disciplines to provide personalised care that supports women throughout their lives.
At Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, our cardiologists understand the factors that can affect women’s heart health, from common cardiovascular conditions to women-specific conditions such as spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). We offer screening, diagnostics and treatment tailored to individual needs.
Specialist care for women’s long-term health
At Guy’s Hospital, our rheumatology service is one of the largest in the UK, providing expert care for the joint, bone and connective tissue conditions that disproportionately affect women, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. We offer specialist assessment, pain management, physiotherapy and treatment, including support for bone and joint health during and after the menopause.
Our nutrition and dietetics specialists provide evidence-based dietary support for women across all life stages, including fertility, pregnancy and menopause. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, they help manage conditions such as endometriosis, gestational diabetes, iron deficiency anaemia and polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), supporting women to achieve better long-term health and wellbeing.
