Mr Sean Blaney is a consultant paediatric ear, nose and throat surgeon at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • ear infections including glue ear
  • hearing loss
  • nose bleeds
  • persistent nasal obstruction
  • recurrent episodes of acute tonsillitis
  • sinusitis
  • snoring/obstructive sleep apnoea

He performs treatments such as:

  • adenoidectomy
  • coblation and dissection tonsillectomy for tonsil problems
  • diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the nose and throat
  • endoscopic ear surgery
  • grommet insertion
  • microsuction of ears
  • nasal cautery
  • tympanoplasty


Biography

Dr Sean Blaney currently heads the Department of Paediatric ENT at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Following his ENT specialist training at Guy’s & St Thomas’, Great Ormond Street and the Royal Sussex County hospitals he undertook a fellowship in paediatric ENT and otology in Australia. He was appointed a consultant at Guy’s & St Thomas’ hospitals in 2001 and has provided a regional service for children with complex airway and breathing problems since.

His surgical interests include endoscopic surgery on the obstructed paediatric airway and endoscopic ear surgery.


Research

Dr Blaney has had numerous academic papers published in peer reviewed journals on subjects ranging from coblation intracapsular tonsillectomy in children through to the frontal sinus in the African Great Apes!

He is an educational supervisor to the senior surgical trainees within the department and sits on the Council of the Section of Laryngology and Rhinology of the Royal Society of Medicine.
