Our private adult physiotherapy service is run by a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable musculoskeletal physiotherapists. We provide expert care in occupational health, wellbeing management, and sports injury rehabilitation.

Based at St Thomas’ Hospital our facilities include:

  • a large well-equipped gym
  • cardiovascular training equipment
  • plyometric boxes

With access to gait analysis equipment and extra-corporeal shockwave devices, our  physiotherapists offer bespoke, evidence-based treatments to give you the best care.

Physiotherapy services

Our physiotherapists are highly experienced in managing musculoskeletal conditions and sporting pain. Depending on your needs, they can offer manual therapy techniques, strength and rehabilitative conditioning and acupuncture.

Our services include:

  • private physiotherapy consultations – initial assessment, bespoke treatment plan and rehabilitative conditioning
  • Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) sessions for tendinopathies
  • 1:1 Hydrotherapy
  • acupuncture
  • joint mobilisation and soft tissue massage therapies

We also provide orthotics services at our hospitals, where we can develop orthotic devices to support and improve posture, function and mobility. Should further pain management be needed, our pain medicine specialists can support you.

If you are paying for private physiotherapy yourself, you can book an appointment directly with our customer service team.

Our private physiotherapy service is also recognised by most UK health insurance schemes including BUPA, AXA PPP, Norwich Union, and Pru Health. We recommend you contact your insurance company to check your individual policy cover before treatment. See ‘paying for your care’ for further details.

Paul Deane (BSc, MCSP) is a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist who after qualifying from Sheffield Hallam University with a first-class honours degree, has worked in a variety of different clinical areas within the NHS before specialising in neuro-musculoskeletal injuries.

Paul is devoted to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice through continuous professional development, having completed a MSc module in neuromuscular triage, published a case report on sickle cell anaemia and avascular necrosis, whilst also guest lecturing at King’s College London on both the BSc and MSc physiotherapy courses.

Paul has a passion for helping clients return to sport, having a particular interest in the rehabilitation of lower limb injuries. He has worked in a variety of national and international elite sport settings, including football, rugby and as part of the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) medical team at elite level university sporting competitions.

Serena Johnston (BSc, MCSP) is a highly specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapist who graduated from Northumbria University in 2016. She has had experience in various NHS Trusts as well as private practice. 

Serena sees a large variety of patients and also runs the extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) clinic. She is dedicated to maintaining her continuous professional development, having completed a post-graduate qualification in Neuromusculoskeletal Triage which has further developed her assessment skills. This, combined with her extensive clinical experience, enables her to be able to give a thorough assessment.  

Serena enjoys sports of all kinds, from netball to hockey, tennis and more recently road cycling. She has also worked at the London marathon supporting endurance athletes. Serena uses and applies her understanding of sports, combined with her physiotherapy knowledge, to help you achieve your goal.

Hannah Atkinson (BSc, MCSP, AACP) is a highly specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapist with a first-class honours degree from Cardiff University. She has worked in a variety of different clinical areas within the NHS and private practice and specialises in treating complex neuro-musculoskeletal injuries.

Maintaining evidence-based treatments and promoting clinical research and teaching are integral to her practice, including guest lecturing at King’s College London and presenting at national conferences.

Previous work into the management of ACL knee injuries has furthered her interest in lower limb presentations, and the importance of appropriate rehabilitative programmes.

Tom Eckett (MSc, MCSP) is a highly specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapist graduating from Leeds Beckett University. Prior to physiotherapy Tom also graduated from Portsmouth university with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and MSc in Sports Performance. Tom has worked in a variety of different areas within the NHS and private practice and has a breadth of experience in treating musculoskeletal injury.

Tom offers patient centred individualised care. He is dedicated to continued professional development and straying current with the latest advancements in physiotherapy. Tom currently works within the extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and private hydrotherapy clinics.

Tom Boam (MSc, MCSP) is a highly specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapist who graduated with a first class honours degree from King’s College London.

He has worked within musculoskeletal teams across two London NHS trusts, contributing to a breadth of experience from acute injuries to complex conditions. Prior to this, he completed an undergraduate degree in Sports Science and enjoyed two seasons supporting an elite football academy with rehabilitation and pitch-side injury management.

Advancing clinical skills and maintaining high standards of care remain integral to effective evidence-based practice. Tom continues to develop his expertise through postgraduate study, and enjoys contributing to the wider physiotherapy community by facilitating department training programmes and delivering university lectures. This includes completion of a Neuromusculoskeletal Triage masters module to aid more effective and efficient diagnostic assessment.

Tom’s experience includes hydrotherapy and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT).
