Dr Nitha Naqvi (winner of Asian Woman of The Year) is an experienced paediatric cardiologist who cares for children of all ages (babies, children and teenagers) with all types of heart related problems.

She provides a comprehensive diagnostic service including echocardiography, ECG, 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring, exercise testing including Cardio-Pulmonary MVO2 Exercise testing. Patients are seen as a one stop assessment. If a child is found to require cardiac surgery Dr Naqvi works with some of the best paediatric cardiac surgeons in the world.

Dr Naqvi has won multiple accolades including recently winning the Top Doctors Award for 2 consecutive years. Her life story featured on the iconic big screen in Piccadilly Circus. She was congratulated by the prime minister for winning the NatWest Asian Woman Of Achievement Chairman’s Award and has appeared as an inspiring leader in the national press (Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, BBC).

Biography

Dr Nitha Naqvi is a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital, where she treats private and NHS patients.

Dr Naqvi trained at Guys and St Thomas’s Medical School in London. She has been awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Paediatric Prize and the Young Investigator Prize from the British Congenital Cardiac Association.

Dr Naqvi trained in adult cardiology, and then completed general paediatric training in London and Birmingham. Her training covered general paediatrics, neonatology, paediatric oncology, and paediatric intensive care. She has a masters from the Institute of Child Health in London. In 2000, she completed her paediatric cardiology training at Guy’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Royal Brompton Hospital.

Dr Naqvi has been working as a consultant at Royal Brompton Hospital since 2011. During her career, she has won a number of national prizes, including:

  • the British Congenital Cardiac Association prize for research
  • the Royal Society of Medicine prize for paediatrics

Dr Naqvi has led the Royal Brompton Paediatric cardiology Network of 24 hospitals for more than a decade. She is also an expert in Marfan syndrome and aortopathy and is a Trustee of the National Marfan Trust. She has been invited all around the world to give expert lectures and has presented her published research at International Conferences in Europe, Australia, South Africa and the USA.


Research interests

Dr Nitha Naqvi has a number of research interests, including:

  • speckle tracking
  • echocardiography
  • fitness to fly in children with congenital heart disease
  • 22q11.2 deletion syndrome

Her research has been published and presented around the globe.

Publications

She has published the results of her research in a number of peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, she has presented her research internationally – including at two world congresses in paediatric cardiology in Cape Town, South Africa and Cairns, Australia.

Teaching

Dr Naqvi has an established reputation in post-graduate teaching. She runs regular courses in congenital echocardiography, which attracts national and international audiences.

She teaches internationally, particularly on paediatric echocardiography.
