Clinical expertise

Dr Mason has extensive experience in managing patients with coronary artery disease, valvular disease, heart failure, and managing patients who require or already have a pacemaker or defibrillator.

He has considerable experience in coronary angioplasty and stenting (PCI), including having played a significant role in developing the primary angioplasty service at Harefield from its inception in 2004.

He has extensive expertise in implanting pacemakers and ICDs, with a particular interest in Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy or Biventricular Pacing (CRT). He has wide experience in pacemaker and ICD extraction, including the use of laser lead extraction, and was a Specialist  Advisor to NICE in this area.

In addition, he has a keen interest in sports cardiology, including screening for the risks associated with participation in endurance sport, particularly in older athletes.



Biography

Dr Mason qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, before undertaking Cardiology training with the London Deanery. He has been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2001.


Research interests

Dr Mark Mason is interested in monitoring patients with chronic heart failure through the use of technology such as the CardioMEMS implantable pulmonary artery pressure monitor.

Teaching

Dr Mason has lectured and chaired extensively at meetings in the UK and internationally in both PCI and pacing and defibrillators.

In 2018, Dr Mason was appointed as a visiting clinical professor at Brunel University London.
