Biography
Dr Karine Lascelles is a consultant children’s neurologist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She has over 20 years’ experience managing children with complex epilepsy and neurofibromatosis within multidisciplinary teams and actively participates in the acute neurology service.
Karine graduated from Bristol University Medical School in 1993 and began paediatric training in Exeter in 1994, followed by 18 months of training in Sydney, Australia. After returning to the UK in 1997, she worked at Guy’s Hospital and entered a formal South London training programme in 1998. In 2000, Dr Lascelles commenced specialist training in paediatric neurology at Guy’s and St Thomas’, St George’s, and King’s College Hospital. Following completion of her training, she undertook a one-year epilepsy fellowship at King’s College Hospital, including 6 weeks in the paediatric epilepsy service at Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades in Paris with Professor Dulac.
Research
Dr Lascelles was appointed consultant children’s neurologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in October 2005. Her particular areas of expertise lie in the fields of complex epilepsy including genetic and structural epilepsies and in her NHS practice she works as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service (CESS).
As paediatric lead for the Nationally Commissioned Neurofibromatosis 1 and NF2-related schwannomatosis service, she has contributed to the NICE consultation process for highly specialist technologies, has extensive experience delivering educational lectures at national and international level and works closely with colleagues coordinating clinical trials for novel therapies. She is a member of the medical advisory board for the charity Nerve Tumours UK.
