Clinical expertise

Dr James Wong specialises in paediatric cardiology, congenital cardiac MRI and cardiac CT.

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as

He performs treatments such as:

  • transthoracic echocardiography (echo)
  • transoesophageal echo (TOE)
  • ECG
  • cardiopulmonary exercise testing

Dr Wong is a consultant in paediatric cardiology based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital which forms part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. He is recognised both nationally and internationally for his work in cardiac MRI.

He trained at Cambridge University and completed a PhD at Kings College London. His post-graduate training was in London and Japan. His thesis investigated novel ways of measuring cardiac function using MRI in patients with single ventricle physiology.

He is a founding member of the Lifelong Congenital Heart Disease Network Board which aims to improve care for those living with CHD.

Dr Wong is able to provide care for the whole spectrum of congenital heart disease from newborns through to adolescents and young adults. He provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient care and additionally has areas of expertise in the application of cardiac MRI and cardiac CT to understanding heart disease in young people.

His research interests continue in this field and broadly relate to bringing new sequences into the clinical realm to help us better understand complex heart conditions. Recently he has published on cardiac outcomes and medium term outcomes in patients with PIMS-TS helping to lead and shape best practice for this new condition.

He is the lead for education and training for paediatric cardiology at the Evelina. He is a member of the national training committee and contributes towards maintaining standards.
