Dr Chuin Ying Ung is a consultant dermatologist specialising in all areas of general dermatology and has expertise in scalp and hair conditions.

Biography
Dr Chuin Ying Ung is a consultant dermatologist at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
She graduated from Imperial College London with first class honours, distinctions in all areas and the Evelyn de Rothschild research prize. She undertook dermatology training at St John’s Institute, during which time she earned a PhD in Genetics of Complex Disease with a focus in scarring.
Dr Ung has broad clinical expertise across all areas of dermatology (including acne, eczema, psoriasis and skin cancer). She leads the department’s Hot (acute dermatology) Clinic and runs specialist hair and nail disorders clinics for both adults and children.
Alongside clinical practice, she is actively engaged in education and research. She serves as joint training programme director for St John’s Institute and lectures for its DermAcademy. She has bench to bedside research experience and has served as investigator on clinical trials for eczema and alopecia areata. Her work has been published in high impact journals such as JAMA Dermatology and British Journal of Dermatology.
Research
Dr Chuin Ying Ung’s PhD focused on the genetics of scarring. She researched fibroblast cell biology and engaged big data to understand the population genetics of keloid and hypertrophic scarring. This work was funded through a prestigious Medical Research Council training fellowship.
She is now actively engaged in clinical research on hair loss disorders.
