Clinical expertise

Alison Pottle manages a team of clinical nurse specialists, administrators and allied health professional staff.

In her time as a nurse consultant in cardiology, she has established and run many services including:

  • rapid access chest pain clinic
  • percutaneous coronary intervention follow-up clinics
  • low-density lipoprotein (LDL) apheresis service
  • preadmission clinics
  • nurse-led discharge

Her role and responsibilities have expanded greatly in the over 20 years she has been in the post.

Alison is also an advanced life support instructor and has set up and run the first advanced life support course at Harefield. These courses have continued to be run by the resuscitation team.



Biography

Alison Pottle is a nurse consultant in cardiology at Harefield Hospital.

She trained at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and completed further training in coronary care (ENB 124) at West Middlesex University Hospital and an MSc in Cardiology in Brighton.

She has served in several roles at Harefield Hospital since 1985, including being a senior staff nurse, a sister and a resuscitation officer. She has worked in various areas of the hospital, both in the wards and in the medical high dependency unit.

In 2000, Alison was appointed as a nurse consultant in cardiology – one of the first posts of its kind in the country.

Alison achieved first prize in the Cardiac Nursing Awards in 2008 for excellence in primary or secondary prevention.


Publications

She has been published in a number of cardiac and nursing journals and books on a wide range of subjects.
