Dr Ali Kubba is a consultant gynaecologist, colposcopist, sexual health and reproductive health specialist. He has worked in the field of women’s health for 40 years and is honorary professor at Basra School of Medicine in Iraq.
He performs treatments such as:
- colposcopy (examination of cervix and vagina); loop diathermy treatment, polyps-removal, HPV testing, treating warts and HPV vaccination
- contraception and complex contraceptive problems
- genital prolapse and vaginal laxity
- management of women with abnormal smears, polyps and cervical abnormalities
- menopause, including non-hormonal treatments and hormone implants
- premenstrual tension
- well woman screening

Biography
Dr Ali Kubba adopts a patient-centred approach, using his long experience in gynaecology to provide individually tailored investigations and treatment plans that avoid any unnecessary tests or procedures, employing the full spectrum of potential treatments from surgical and medical to natural or lifestyle remedies. Consultations are not time-limited, allowing patients as much time as they need, both in the clinic and beyond. He ensures that his focus is on the whole person, rather than the problem in isolation. For him, prevention of future problems, quality of life and physical, sexual and emotional fulfilment are integral to any treatment plan.
Positions held by Dr Kubba are being the Vice President of the European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health till 2024 and executive committee member of the European Society of Gynaecology. He is a founding member of the International Consortium for Male Contraception and holds several editorial posts in international journals, as well as being awarded a B distinction Clinical Excellence Award.
Education
Ali qualified in 1973 and is recognised as an international authority in contraception and reproductive health and has an extensive background in service development, research and training. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1995 and is an Honorary Professor at Basra Medical College in Iraq and ex-Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.
Research
Mr Kubba has a research interest in cervical pre-cancer, colposcopy, HPV and innovative ways to manage menopause. He lectures widely, both in the UK and internationally. He has over 100 publications in various international journals and is the author/co-editor of several books and papers on women’s health including the textbook Contraception and Office Gynaecology: Choices in Reproductive Healthcare (Balliere Tindall, 1999).
Ali is on two editorial boards, as well as being an international speaker and advocate for healthy sexual and reproductive lives for women and men.
