At Guy’s and St Thomas’ Specialist Care, we’re proud to have a team of primary care managers dedicated to supporting GPs in the UK. We can provide detailed information about consultants and diagnostic tests available in our facilities, as well as help to establish direct GP referrals to our centres. Tailored support is available for all GPs to help bridge the gap between primary and tertiary care.

Tailored support for healthcare professionals

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Specialist Care is made up of 5 hospitals: Evelina London Children’s, Guy’s, Harefield, Royal Brompton and St Thomas’, as well as an additional private outpatient clinic at Wimpole Street Consulting Rooms and Diagnostic Centre.

Our primary care managers have close relationships with consultants at all of our sites, working to offer a range of support for GPs, referrers and other healthcare professionals, including:

  • guidance on referring private patients to any of our hospitals
  • hosting educational talks, courses and events
  • regular newsletters with industry updates and career opportunities

“All profits generated by private patient income are reinvested into Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust for the benefit of all patients,” explains Sandie Sawers, primary care manager for west and southwest London. “My focus is to support the Trust by increasing private referral pathways through the introduction of peer-to-peer meetings with healthcare providers.”

Educational events for Continuing Professional Development

Our team of primary care managers regularly hold educational events in collaboration with consultants from across our hospitals. Ranging from innovative heart and lung treatments to children’s care in specialist paediatric units, our educational events are personalised based on the needs of individual GP practices.

As a GP practice referring patients for private care, your dedicated primary care manager can arrange webinars, lunchtime lectures, breakfast meetings, or one-to-one meetings with our consultants from your field of interest. In addition to our scheduled programme of events and lectures, we can also arrange for demonstrations of new technology and devices within individual GP practices, sharing the latest advancements developed and offered by our consultants.

“We’re passionate about supporting healthcare professionals in the local community to better care for patients through raising awareness of our services,” says Christopher Franklin, primary care manager for central London. “We aim to enhance clinical knowledge and improve operational efficiencies through our outreach work.”

Upcoming events with our primary care team

Our primary care managers and consultants have developed an exciting programme of upcoming events for healthcare professionals to learn, contribute to their Continued Professional Development and network with others in the industry. We’re proud to be hosting the following events over the coming months:

Webinar – 27 Feb: ‘Optimising sleep and sleep disordered breathing’ – Dr Shruthi Konda, consultant respiratory physician

Webinar – 13 March: ‘Mental health in primary care’ – Dr Georgios Basdanis, consultant liaison psychiatrist

In-person event – 7 April: ‘Cardiovascular update including coronary sinus reducer’ – Dr Tina Khan, consultant cardiologist & Dr Ranil De Silva, consultant cardiologist

“Organising events is my passion, and I’m constantly looking to foster robust relationships with both providers and consultants through our educational events,” Denise James-Rutty, primary care manager for southeast London and Kent. “The reinvestment of our profits back to the NHS helps to ensure a sustainable future for healthcare.”
