Emma O’Malley is a registered genetic counsellor who works alongside the UK’s leading cardiologists and geneticists in the field of inherited cardiac conditions.
She has specialist expertise in:
- sudden cardiac death
- cardiomyopathy
- inherited arrhythmia
- whole genome sequencing
- non-syndromic paediatric cardiac conditions
She offers personalised and sensitive care for individuals and families facing the reality of being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition. She is able to assess family histories, advise on the appropriate type of genetic testing, and discuss all of the possible implications of the genetic test results. She is able to see patients virtually for pre and post-test genetic counselling.
Emma is passionate about patient-centred care, helping patients to understand complex genomic information, and supporting individuals to adjust to their genetic result.
Biography
Emma O’Malley graduated with a BSc in Medical Genetics, she then went on to complete MRes in evolutionary genomics and a MSc in genomic counselling. Following this, she completed the highly competitive NHS scientist training programme.
She trained alongside a very experienced inherited cardiac conditions team in Leeds and is currently based at Royal Brompton Hospital.
