Dr Wajid Hussain is the chief clinical information officer and clinical director for digital health at the Royal College of Physicians London. He has clinical expertise in:
- the management of arrhythmias ranging from simple palpitations to complex arrhythmias
- atrial fibrillation and the role of ablation in managing this condition
- ventricular tachycardia
- supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome
- single and dual chamber pacemaker insertion
- transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography
He has a particular interest in atrial fibrillation and the role of ablation in managing this condition.

Biography
Dr Wajid Hussain is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, where he treats private and NHS patients.
He graduated from the University of Birmingham with honours in both physiology and medicine. He trained in general cardiology in London before undertaking research in basic science projects relating to heart rhythm disorders at Imperial College London and Columbia University, New York. This work led to him being awarded a Young Investigator Prize at the European Society of Cardiology.
He was appointed as consultant cardiac electrophysiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals to facilitate the expansion of ablation services, particularly in treating atrial fibrillation.
Research interests
Dr Wajid Hussain is the clinical governance lead for the arrhythmia care group at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.
He has a particular interest in the safety and success rates for ablations and pacemakers. He regularly leads audits to improve these measures.
He leads an award-winning project screening for atrial fibrillation, using an innovative handheld device in community pharmacies. In addition, he is involved in projects examining the best treatment for patients with arrhythmias.
Publications
Dr Wajid Hussain has published papers on both basic science topics and clinical electrophysiology. He is active in various local and national research collaborations.
Teaching
Dr Wajid Hussain is responsible for training and appraisals of junior doctors who specialise in electrophysiology at the Trust. He regularly teaches final-year medical students from Imperial College London on the management of arrhythmias.
He has been invited to speak at regional, national and international meetings. The Royal Society of Medicine has also invited him to lecture on a variety of topics including the management of atrial fibrillation and implantable defibrillators.
Dr Hussain has provided specialist training in electrophysiology to doctors in developing countries.
