Biography
Mr Kumar Kunde has been a consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals for over 17 years.
He specialises in high risk obstetric cases, having acquired expert skills in managing complex births and pregnancies. Kumar provides evidence-based care which is effective and safe for both mother and baby.
Mr Kunde qualified from the University of Bombay with a distinction in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for which he was awarded the Gold Medal. After completing his Indian postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology, he came to the UK in 1992 and worked at highly commended maternity units in Manchester and London where he acquired specialist skills in the management of high risk pregnancies.
Mr Kunde qualified as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in 2004 and underwent advanced training in laparoscopic surgery in the USA. This international exposure to the practice of obstetrics has given him a unique overview of different maternity healthcare systems, enabling him to provide world-class care for pregnant women and their babies.
Kumar firmly believes in providing continuity of care, offering timely advice and support to suit his patient’s schedules throughout pregnancy. The positive feedback that he receives from women under his care is a testament to his ability to provide individualised treatment and guidance that meets the emotional and medical needs of the couple, making their journey in pregnancy and childbirth truly memorable.
Research
Mr Kunde has worked as the head of gynaecological services in the women’s health department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and is currently the lead clinician in advanced minimal access surgery in gynaecology. He is a trainer in gynaecological surgery including laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.
He has published several research papers in international journals and has a passion for teaching. He has carried out research on fibroids and effect of myomectomy (removal of fibroids) on fertility outcomes. Mr Kunde was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in September 2011.
