As well as being a consultant gynaecologist, Julia Kopeika is a subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery. She is the clinical lead of the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy’s Hospital.

Biography

Dr Julia Kopeika has been practising medicine for more than 15 years. She is devoted to evidence-based practice and provides treatment that is both scientifically proven and makes a positive difference. Julia understands every condition is unique, she strives to provide personalised, compassionate care listening to her patient’s needs and providing thorough assessment for accurate diagnosis.

After graduating from medical school in 1998 with the top grade in her class, Julia went on to complete her postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK. She completed the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) accredited subspecialty in reproductive medicine and surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals, where she was appointed as a consultant.

Julia has achieved a PhD in reproductive biology and cryobiology at Bedford University in collaboration with the Cambridge Genetics Campus. This expert qualification granted her a unique understanding of the process of freezing eggs, sperm and embryos, allowing her to become an expert in this field.


Research

Dr Julia Kopeika’s novel research on freezing sperm, eggs and embryos has received several awards by international scientific societies.
As well as being a consultant she strives to keep up to date with new research and developments in reproductive medicine. She shares knowledge with future doctors in weekly teaching sessions at King’s College.

She has published multiple papers in scientific journals, authored chapters and books on different aspects of reproductive medicine and science. She has also researched and published on fertility preservation for cancer patients, early pregnancy and general IVF/ICSI.
