Biography
George du Toit is a professor in paediatric allergy at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals and King’s College London.
He obtained his medical degree in 1993 from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, after this he undertook his basic and specialist registrar training.
He has been a consultant since 2003 and since his appointment he has also become a honorary senior lecturer in the department of paediatrics and child health at Cape Town University.
He is lead clinician for the children’s drug allergy and urticaria service at St Thomas’ Hospital.
Research
Professor George du Toit was senior co-investigator on two National Institutes for Health funded research studies aimed at the prevention of peanut allergy. It was titled the ‘Learning Early about Peanut (LEAP) and LEAP-On Studies’. He is also co-investigator on the LEAP-Trio Studies and is a past chairperson of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) paediatric section.
He is currently undertaking trials aimed at the treatment of peanut allergy (Palisade and Artemis Trials).
