Dr Georgios Basdanis is a consultant liaison psychiatrist with specialist knowledge of a wide array of mental health conditions, including the assessment and management of cancer and chronic physical health problems.

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • adjustment disorder
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • disturbed sleep
  • stress


Biography

Dr Georgios Basdanis has detailed knowledge of the overlap between mental health and cancer care, including managing the side effects of oncology medications. He works at Dimbleby Cancer Care, a psycho-oncology service, where he supports patients throughout their cancer diagnosis and treatment.

After graduating from medical school at the University of Thessaly in Greece, Dr Basdanis completed his psychiatry training at the Maudsley, Royal Bethlem and St Thomas’ hospitals in London, and the Institute of Psychiatry. He is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry, with a sub-specialist endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry.


Research

Recognised as a medical educator, Dr Basdanis serves as a GMC-recognised trainer and provides education and supervision for medical students and doctors. He has a particular interest in issues around sexuality and delivers teaching on LGBTQ+ healthcare.

His research focuses on the psychiatric side-effects of oncology medications.
