Clinical expertise

Mr Alireza Keshtgar specialises in neonatal and paediatric surgery including surgery on newborns and general, colorectal and minimally invasive laparoscopy (keyhole) surgery in children.

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • colorectal disorders
  • obstructive defecation

He performs treatments such as:

  • colorectal (bowel) surgery and botulinum toxin (botox) treatment for chronic functional constipation
  • anal fissure
  • faecal incontinence
  • Hirschsprung’s disease
  • anorectal malformations and rectal prolapse
  • ACE stoma
  • all general surgery in children including hernias, hydrocele, undescended testicles, circumcision, lumps and laparoscopy


Biography

Mr Alireza Keshtgar has been a full time consultant neonatal and paediatric surgeon at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham since October 2004. He was awarded honorary professor of paediatric surgery at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2015.

He has extensive experience including surgery on newborns, general, colorectal and minimally invasive laparoscopy (keyhole) surgery in children.


Research

Mr Alireza Keshtgar has specialist interest investigations and surgery of colorectal disorders in children including 3D anorectal manometry and 3D endosonography and botulinum toxin treatment of obstructive defecation.

He has led and organized international advanced training courses and workshops in anorectal manometry and endosonography and surgery of paediatric colorectal disorders for specialists in the United Kingdom. He is a peer reviewer for several paediatric surgery and medical journals.

As an audit lead for paediatric surgery, he contributed to evidence-based practice and patient outcome studies through numerous publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, presentations at international conferences and drawing surgical guidelines in his department.
