Experts in complex children’s lung care
Our consultants work closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to provide personalised integrated care for children with complex needs, including those with complex neurodisabilities.
With our expertise across children’s cardiology, ENT medicine and neurorehabilitation, we can support any condition that affects breathing.
Snow Leopard ward
Snow Leopard ward is home to our children’s long-term ventilation unit, neurorehabilitation unit and sleep centre. Designed with the needs of children, it is a warm environment with bright colours and artwork to support wellbeing and help our young patients’ and families to feel at ease.
Our long-term ventilation unit provides a ‘home away from home’ environment for those that need the help of a breathing machine for months or years at a time. When children are ready, we help ease the transition from hospital to home by providing all ongoing support and care.
For patients with long-term conditions, we work closely with our adult respiratory medicine services at Royal Brompton to ensure a smooth transition from child to adult services.

Children’s lung care at Royal Brompton Hospital
Royal Brompton is world-renowned for the care of children with cystic fibrosis and is the largest treatment centre for the condition in Europe. Children with cystic fibrosis receive care at Fulham Wing, where we also provide treatment for adults with the condition for seamless onward care.
In addition, Royal Brompton is a specialist centre for children with primary ciliary dyskinesia, interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis. This includes our clinical genetics and genomics laboratory where we determine the genetic cause of inherited heart and lung conditions and identify family members at risk.
We offer large non-invasive and invasive ventilation services, as well as a severe asthma service which includes nurse-led biologic treatments. Children requiring these services will be treated on Rose ward, which also provides inpatient care for children that need surgery for their lung condition.
