Clinical expertise
Dr Trisha Vigneswaran is the clinical lead for fetal cardiology at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. With over 15 years’ of experience in paediatric and fetal cardiology, Trisha has been a consultant at Evelina London since 2016.
She regularly treats patients with conditions such as:
- fetal heart anomalies
- congenital heart disease from the first trimester of pregnancy (13 weeks)
- heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias)
- heart murmurs
- tricuspid valve dysplasia
- aortic stenosis
- hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- transposition of great arteries
She performs diagnostics and treatments such as:
- fetal echocardiography (from 13 weeks)
- prenatal diagnosis for suitability of fetal cardiac intervention
- counselling for fetal cardiac abnormalities
- acute maternal hyperoxygenation testing
- screening for congenital heart disease where risk factors have been identified e.g. increased nuchal translucency, family history of congenital heart disease, maternal medical conditions
- multidisciplinary assessment of vascular rings

Biography
Dr Trisha Vigneswaran supports both fetal and paediatric cardiac patients. Her specialist interest is in fetal cardiology in which she is actively involved in local, national and international research activities to improve the assessment and management of cardiac conditions which present in unborn babies.
Dr Vigneswaran studied medicine at Imperial College, London where she was awarded an intercalated BSc (Hons.) in Cardiovascular Science and Medicine and medical degree with honours in 2003.
She undertook her paediatric training at Barts Health NHS Trust, The Royal London Hospitals and subsequently paediatric cardiology training at Evelina London and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. She achieved her subspecialty training in fetal cardiology at Evelina London and King’s College London. Trisha completed a MD (research) degree at King’s College London.
Research and teaching
Dr Vigneswaran is the UK lead for multiple international research collaborations including those on Ebstein’s anomaly of the tricuspid valve and tricuspid valve dysplasia, fetal cardiac interventions and critical aortic stenosis.
Having published over 50 peer-reviewed research papers and contributed to various textbooks, Trisha is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings. She provides postgraduate training to the next generation of fetal cardiologists, and organises courses to teach other practitioners about the advances in fetal cardiology.
She currently leads a number of research projects in aspects of both fetal and paediatric cardiology. These include:
• vascular rings – prenatal and postnatal assessment and management
• acute maternal hyperoxygenation testing for perinatal assessment of congenital heart disease
