Clinical expertise

Mr Vijay Wagh is a consultant ophthalmologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’.

He provides care for emergency and general ophthalmic conditions and specialises in cataract surgery, oculoplastics and external eye diseases.

He treats ophthalmology conditions such as:

  • cataracts
  • eyelid lesions, eye cysts and skin tags around the eyes
  • watery eyes
  • dry eye and Sjogren’s syndrome
  • astigmatism
  • skin-related ocular surface problems including ocular rosacea, allergic eye disease and pterygium

He performs treatments such as:

  • cataract surgery including micro incision cataract surgery in complex cases, phacoemulsification, toric and multifocal lens implants to correct astigmatism and near vision and YAG laser capsulotomy
  • eye socket surgery
  • eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
  • oculoplastic and aesthetic surgery including minor plastic surgery procedures such as the removal of moles,  skin tags and eyelid lesions
  • lacrimal (tear duct) surgery for watery eyes


Biography

Mr Vijay Wagh is a UK trained eye surgeon (ophthalmologist) working within London.

His particular expertise is modern laser and phako-emulsification cataract surgery. This includes implantation of multifocal and toric intraocular lens implants to improve astigmatism and presbyopia which means spectacle independence both for distance and near for many patients.

During his medical education, he was selected for many prestigious awards and a 3-year MD program.

He ,completed his ophthalmology training in multiple hospitals throughout London, including Moorfields Eye Hospital before undertaking a fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital.


Research

Mr Vijay Wagh pioneered research into the long term outcome in laser eye surgery and corneal crosslinking.

He is actively involved in medical education and is currently on the education committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK. He is an examiner and on the faculty for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists microsurgical skills course.
