Clinical expertise
Dr Beverly Tsai-Goodman is an expert in heart conditions in unborn babies, babies and children.
Her areas of expertise include:
- diagnosing congenital heart disease (CHD), heart murmurs, chest pain and palpitations in children and young adults
- managing CHD in patients from before birth to young adulthood
- managing newborn infants and children with congenital heart defects
- detecting abnormalities in fetal hearts as early as 15-16 gestation
- working with obstetricians and obstetrics ultrasonographers to improve recognition of CHD early
Dr Tsai-Goodman has been a member of the fetal cardiac subcommittee for the NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Program (FSAP). This group puts together the national guidelines on fetal cardiac screening. She has also helped write the cardiac part of the consensus statement for patients with 22q11, supported by the MAX appeal.

Biography
Dr Beverly Tsai-Goodman is a consultant paediatric and fetal cardiologist who is based at Royal Brompton Hospital, where she treats private and NHS patients.
She studied medicine at the University of Southampton. In 2004, she was awarded a doctorate from the University of Bristol where she trained in paediatric cardiology and practised as a consultant until 2016. Additionally, from 2004 to 2014, Dr Tsai-Goodman was the leading cardiologist for the Barth Syndrome Specialist Services in Bristol.
Dr Tsai-Goodman also spent 15 months at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School as a senior clinical fellow. During this time, she trained in cardiac MRI, echocardiography and fetal cardiology.
Since 2017, Dr Tsai-Goodman has been a consultant paediatric and fetal cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital.
She was recently awarded a master’s (MSc) degree in genomics medicine at Imperial College London. She aims is to combine her expertise in paediatric and fetal cardiology with the latest in human genomics.
Publications
Dr Beverly Tsai-Goodman has led a variety of research projects and has published the results of her research in several peer-reviewed journals. This includes using MRI in assessing fetal circulation to developing a non-invasive tool to track cardiac output in newborns.
Teaching
Dr Beverly Tsai-Goodman has a postgraduate certificate in medical education (PG Cert Med Ed). Each year she convenes the ‘Echocardiography for Neonatologists’ course, a two-day practical course which sees delegates attend from many countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and across Europe.
She has delivered this course in St Kitts and plans to expand it to Pakistan, as well as the Middle East. She has also delivered practical training, lectures and live scans at local and national levels.
