Dr Philip Berry is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a specialist interest in digestive and liver disorders, as well as endoscopic procedures.

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • abdominal pains
  • abnormal bowel habits
  • bowel symptoms
  • fatty liver
  • gallstones

He performs treatments such as:

  • colonoscopy
  • endoscopy (stomach)
  • endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • fibroscans (liver)

Biography

Dr Philip Berry has vast experience and expertise in all areas of his field, but has a subspecialty in liver disease, including viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver damage, tumours, and fatty liver disease. He performs advanced endoscopic techniques such as endoscopy to remove bile and pancreatic stones, minimizing risk to his clients and reducing recovery time.

Dr Berry was awarded his medical degree from Bristol University, followed by a master’s degree from Kings College Liver Unit after his research into cirrhosis. He is heavily published, with over 150 articles and several books to his name, alongside medical contributions to The Guardian newspaper and the British Medical Journal.


Research

Dr Philip Berry has led investigations into patient safety, the complications of cirrhosis, the immune effects of anti-cancer treatment, palliative care in liver disease and medical ethics.

His books include The Golden Thread – Stitching Patient Safety into the NHS, and Open & Honest – Dialogues from the Front line of Medicine.
