Clinical expertise

Dr Pulin Luo is a consultant haematologist with a specialist interest in haemostasis and thrombosis.

She regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • anaemia investigation and management (iron, B12/folate deficiencies, haemolytic anaemias, complex or unexplained case)
  • inherited bleeding disorders (haemophilia and rare bleeding disorders)
  • novel haemophilia therapies, including rebalancing agents (emicizumab)
  • perioperative clotting risk assessment
  • recurrent or unusual thrombosis
  • thrombophilia evaluation and complex anticoagulation management
  • thrombosis

She performs treatments such as:

  • anticoagulation management
  • coagulation factor replacement
  • complications of thrombosis
  • gene therapy for haemophilia B
  • rebalancing agents

Biography

Dr Pulin Luo is a consultant haematologist and clinical lead of the haemostasis and thrombosis Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She leads the haemophilia gene therapy service, the first in the UK to deliver gene therapy commercially.

Dr Luo sees patients with thrombosis, DVT (deep vein thrombosis), PE (pulmonary embolism), thrombophilia, and antiphospholipid syndrome.

She is an active member of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) and The United Kingdom Haemophilia Centre Doctors’ Organisation (UKHCDO), and provides private consultations in haemostasis, thrombosis, haemophilia, and anaemia, offering expert, research-informed care.


Research

Dr Pulin Luo’s research focuses on thrombosis and congenital bleeding disorders, in addition she has served as principal investigator on several phase 3 clinical trials.

Pulin has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work nationally and internationally, receiving research prizes at both the American Society of Haematology (ASH) and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).
