Clinical expertise

Dr Ben Warner is a consultant gastroenterologist specialising in endoscopic procedures for liver diagnosis, such as ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography) and EUS (endoscopic ultrasound).

He regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • bile duct stones
  • jaundice
  • pancreatic cancer
  • pancreatitis

He performs treatments such as:

  • endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
  • ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography)

Biography

Dr Ben Warner has practiced as a consultant gastroenterologist since 2018, he has extensive experience into inflammatory bowel disease and hepatobiliary medicine. He was awarded the Consultant of the Year Award in 2023 at Darent Valley Hospital for his work as the upper gastrointestinal cancer lead for the Trust.

Dr Warner qualified from The Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2006.  Most of his medical training was undertaken in the South-East of England, before completing a research fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in inflammatory bowel disease. He was awarded a research doctorate (MD) from King’s College London, then finished his training with a 1 year fellowship learning endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound at King’s College Hospital making him an advanced endoscopist.

Ben is also dedicated to the teaching of junior doctors and medical students.  He is a senior lecturer at Kent and Medway Medical School, and won “Best 1st Year Lecture” award in 2022.  For his role as a mentor for junior doctors he received “Most Supportive Consultant” award in 2019.


Research

Dr Ben Warner received a research doctorate (MD) in 2020 from King’s College London for his work on thiopurines and their toxicity to the liver, he has continued to recruit to clinical trials such as the IBD Bioresource Study.
