Leading the way in kidney transplants and dialysis
We established the first children’s kidney transplant programme in England, performing the first transplant in a child over 50 years ago. We are now one of the largest and busiest children’s kidney transplant units in the UK.
We accept referrals of complex cases from other UK centres and specialise in performing kidney transplants in children with multiple comorbidities (health problems). We also accept international referrals.
Our multidisciplinary team of specialists are experts in managing children post-transplant, including during the transition to adult care at Guy’s Hospital.

Our paediatric kidney experts help boy to walk again
Our children’s renal team fulfilled 11-year-old Saad Fahad Qasam Alawadhi’s wish to play and walk again – by helping him and his family manage the symptoms of complex primary nephrotic syndrome (NS).
Saad’s mother said: “ The team at Evelina are amazing. I’d like to thank all the team – nurses, doctors and junior training doctors. They took such special care of Saad when he was coming regularly for his treatment. I would also like to thank the play therapist – the school is excellent at Evelina.”
