Biography

Sujay Chandran is a consultant interventional cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, he was a consultant at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust for 5 years.

He is experienced in managing both general and interventional cardiology patients and has a specialist interest in the percutaneous treatment of complex coronary artery disease.

Whether a patient is suffering with chest pain, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, palpitations, breathlessness, blackouts or simply wishes to maintain their heart in good health, he uses his wealth of experience to provide person-centred advice and treatment that is tailored to each patient’s needs and priorities.

Dr Chandran was educated at Westminster School and qualified as a doctor from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 2006. He subsequently trained as a cardiologist in London and the South Coast, amongst the most prestigious and competitive training posts in the UK and completed interventional training in at the Royal Sussex County and St Thomas’ Hospitals.


Research

Dr Sujay Chandran is actively involved in numerous research projects from cardiovascular trials, and intracoronary imaging. Various research papers have been published in high profile international journals. He has a strong academic profile, with a particular interest in the molecular mechanisms that cause acute heart attacks, for which he was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD Res) at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 2018.

Dr Chandran was awarded a prestigious, fully-funded fellowship at the world-renowned McMaster University in Canada where he developed specialist expertise in the highly complex treatment of chronic total occlusions and percutaneous mitral valve intervention (mitraclip).
