Biography

Mrs Michaela Smith is a specialist paediatric dietitian at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

She completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and Genetics in 2017 through University of Cape Town, for which she graduated with distinction. It was within her undergraduate degree that she discovered her love for nutrition and dietetics – as she strongly believes in preventative medicine through optimising nutritional status, and when better than to start in infancy and childhood.

She then completed an Honours degree (equivalent of a UK Masters degree) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in 2019 through University of Cape Town, where she developed a special interest in paediatric and neonatal nutrition, as well as lactation support. She decided that she wanted to broaden her skill set in order to better serve her patients, and she qualified as a South African Certified Lactation Consultant (SACLC) in 2020 through WITS University.

Since then, she worked for a year in South Africa, and then immigrated to the UK, at which point she started to work in the NHS; where she has worked at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital, as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital and Evelina London Children’s hospital – two world renowned specialist paediatric hospitals.

She has always had a passion for paediatrics, as she loves working with children and feels she is pursuing her calling by trying to help as many families as she can, however she is able to.  She strives to be the best health professional that she can be, and her goal is to make a difference in people’s lives.

In her various roles, she has gained substantial experience in caring for infants and has specialised as an Infant Feeding Specialist – she can provide support in all areas of infant feeding and beyond.
